The Lombardi Eye Clinic, a specialized center for keratoconus treatment, is headed by Dr. Massimo Lombardi. The clinic is at the avant-garde in keratoconus research, diagnosis and treatment, including the mini ARK Surgery.
Dr. Lombardi, working at his center for keratoconus, made a breakthrough in the early 80s, by applying the same principles used in Radial Keratotomy, strategically located incisions in the cornea to correct myopia disorders, to treat keratoconus. He developed new techniques, Asymmetric Radial Keratotomy and Mini ARK Surgery as treatment methods. This technique for keratoconus treatment has its past in the Radial Keratotomies performed first by Sato (1955), and then by Fyodorov (1975).
