Cure for keratoconus: latest research and treatment methods by the Lombardi Eye Clinic on this corneal pathology

The Lombardi Eye Clinic, head by Dr. Massimo Lombardi, is at the avant-garde in the diagnosis and cure for keratoconus. Keratoconus is a pathology that affects the corneal collagen layers, and is caused by an infective sub acute chronic keratocongiunctivitis. Symptoms of keratoconus include burning, sensation of foreign body, the need to rub one's eyes, and in many cases an eye dryness.

Dr. Lombardi made a breakthrough in the cure for keratoconus in the early 80s, when he applied the same principles used in Radial Keratotomy, strategically located incisions in the cornea to correct myopia disorders, to treat keratoconus. He developed a new technique, Asymmetric Radial Keratotomy and mini-A.R.K as a cure for keratoconus. This technique for keratoconus treatment has its past in the Radial Keratotomies performed first by Sato (1955), and then by Fyodorov (1975).

In 95% of cases, properly carried-out asymmetric radial keratotomy is decisive in the cure for keratoconus.
