Keratoconus: causes, treatment and research by the Lombardi Eye Clinic on this corneal pathology

The Lombardi Eye Clinic, headed by Dr. Massimo Lombardi, is at the avant-garde in the diagnosis and treatment of the various forms of keratoconus. Keratoconus is a pathology that affects the corneal collagen layers, and is caused by an infective sub acute chronic keratocongiunctivitis. Symptoms of keratoconus include burning, sensation of foreign body, the need to rub one's eyes, and in many cases an eye dryness.

Dr. Lombardi made a breakthrough in the treatment of keratoconus in the early 80s, when he applied the same principles used in Radial Keratotomy, strategically located incisions in the cornea to correct myopia disorders, to treat keratoconus.
